The Language of Things: Understanding the World of Desirable Objects by Deyan Sudjic
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Started off with some interesting observations touching on how not only function influences design but also the motivations of the maker and the social context. Interesting potential. Understanding why a thing was wanted is important However, the author never really finished those ideas nor went further.
The latter 2/3 of the text is a good catalogue of modern designers and their significant work. The book would be useful companion to a class discussion on design, but really did not offer much, if any, new perspective.
